KITAP Indonesia — Permanent Stay Permit Guide 2026

KITAP (Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap) is Indonesia's Permanent Stay Permit. It allows a foreign national to live in Indonesia on a long-term basis without annual KITAS renewals. KITAP is valid for 5 years and is renewable. It is one of the highest levels of legal residency status available to foreigners in Indonesia.

KITAP is available to foreign nationals who: (1) have held a valid KITAS for at least 5 consecutive years, (2) are married to an Indonesian citizen (after certain period), (3) have previously held KITAP and are renewing it, or (4) have minor children with Indonesian citizenship. Applicants must demonstrate continuous legal residency and compliance with Indonesian immigration rules.

KITAP is initially issued for 5 years. After the 5-year period, it can be renewed. KITAP holders do not need annual immigration renewals as required with KITAS, making it significantly more convenient for long-term residents.

KITAP processing typically takes 4–8 weeks from complete document submission to the immigration directorate. The process involves national-level immigration review (not just local office) which adds time compared to KITAS processing.

KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) is issued for 1–2 years and requires annual or biennial renewal. KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit) is issued for 5 years, renewable, and does not require annual renewal.
